Where is it coming from?
So that sore throat of mine didn't get any better after posting the last blog entry. In fact it got so bad that I had to cancel class on Thursday because I could only make sounds comparable to an electronic voice box. It kind of sucked, and really kind of hurt so I'm just glad that it's over.
The title of this blog post comes from a thought I had this afternoon while sitting in my office. It was nearing the end of the day and I was kind of killing time waiting for the trolley departure time and I noticed that my left foot didn't feel right. No, I'm not falling apart, I just felt like there was something in my shoe. So I took my shoe off and tilted it up so the stuff that was under my foot would collect in the heel cup of the shoe. I don't know why I do this, but I kind of like seeing what's in my shoes, other than my feet. Have you ever stuck your hand all the way up to the tip of your shoes just to pull out all the sock lint that collects there? I find it kind of fun to do from time to time, that doesn't make me weird does it? God, I hope someone else does that, otherwise I just became a whole lot stranger...anyone else? Please?
Anyway, back to the issue at hand. It turns out that what was in my shoe was a small amount of sand. A bit odd, but not really a big surprise, I have worn these shoes at the beach. So I turned the shoe over the garbage and gave it a shake. Now of course if something has been in your shoe and bothering you you want to make sure that it's all gone before you put the shoe back on. So I shook the thoroughly to make sure that no sand was left, and that's were things got strange. I could hear the grains of sand raining down on the plastic bag in the garbage can, but unlike what I expected, they never stopped flowing. The more I shook the more sand came out. I squeezed it, bent it, shook it, I may have even twirled it, no matter what I did sand kept raining out of the shoe, to the point where I could easily see it collecting in small piles at the bottom of the bag.
